SYNOPSIS
Billy Pitcher is an overprotective, overpowering dad who feels he’s always right! Always pushing his point and his right-wing agenda. When his daughter starts dating a man who doesn't agree with any of his views, it tips him over the edge.
As a young millennial woman, she is not fazed by her father’s antics and eventually convinces him to attend an African church in order for him to at least try to understand and embrace her new partners culture. Unfortunately for him, he attends on the day of 'UMBADEHDEH', a spiritual day where dreams and nightmares can come true.
What follows is a comedic and hilarious journey of gut-wrenching laughs as he finds out first hand what it's like to be Black in todays’ society.
INSPIRATION
What inspires humanity is crucial on so many levels.
After watching the news and witnessing the actual events that led up to the tragic death of George Floyd, the world was moved and inspired to say, ‘enough is enough’. On The Other Foot will highlight and explore many of the issues that affect people of colour every day. Dispelling the myths and getting to the heart of modern-day prejudices, institutionalised and systematic racism. The film explores this in a clever, non-threatening yet thought provoking way; guiding the audience to think beyond their own idiosyncrasies.

DIRECTORS VISION
Fredi Nwaka is an award winning writer, director and producer from London with two feature films in circulation. The Living Dead which is distributed globally by Devil Works Ltd from October 2020 and In Spite Of Everything which is due for tentative release spring 2021.
Words from the director...The starting point for On The Other Foot came as a response to the events in the US, where George Floyd tragically lost his life. He’s not the first person to lose his life, as the result of a racially fuelled act and unfortunately, he won't be the last, but I have hope; I have hope that the World is changing, albeit slowly, and a film like this will do its part in helping to make that change. I want to create something that’s comedic with a strong moral message. Something you can relate to with laugh-out-loud humour, which I believe is necessary for a truly enduring movie of change. I also want to create a movie that's both fresh and edgy, while still being relatable to individuals from all walks of life. A film everyone can identify with, carefully balancing the tone of the piece between wild humour and restrained moments of intimacy, to ensure the film can be enjoyed on multiple levels.
What may appear to be a disposable popcorn movie can still have multiple layers of wide-ranging appeal. On The Other Foot will invite the audience to come back to it time and time again, offering as much pathos as it does laugh-out-loud moments. This will be the key for its prevailing success. The most important job of any director is to understand the emotional reaction of their audience, not just overall, but during each and every beat of the piece. For me, it’s important that the absolutely hilarious moments of the film are not lost to navel-gazing or preaching about morality.
Performances will be key to the success of this film, and finding comedic actors who are able to deliver emotional payoffs will allow us to bring the script to life and give the actors greater freedom to explore their characters, in turn finding even more opportunities for us to create those ‘spit-out-your-popcorn’ moments of pure laughter and joy.
